Failure Detection and Fault Tolerant Control System
–Parameterization Approach–
Professor Kou Yamada
Gunma University, Japan
Abstract: In the real systems, sometimes failures occur. When control systems experience failure, there exist two methods. One is to design a control system that remains stable even if failure occurs. The other is to detect failure to control the system stable. The former methods are called simultaneous stabilization and strongly stabilization. Simultaneous stabilization is to control several plants using one controller. Therefore, when we find the plant models after failures, if we design a controller to stabilize all plant models, then even if the failure occurs, we can keep the system stable. The strongly stabilization problem is to make the control system stable using stable controllers. This method is safer even if the feedback loop is cut. The latter system includes failure detector. When the failure is detected, control system changes to make the control system stable. In this speech, we explain failure detection and fault tolerant control system using parameterization approach.

Keynote Speech II
Non-Thermal Food Processing Using Underwater High Voltage Discharge
Professor Kei Eguchi
Fukuoka Institute of Technology, Japan
Abstract: With the aging society, non-thermal food processing is attracting much attention in order to provide nutritious fresh foods to the elderly. In past studies, several attempts have already been undertaken to develop an efficient non-thermal food processing. This presentation will showcase the design of a shockwave non-thermal food processing system using a novel high voltage generator. Unlike existing technologies such as cold plasma, high voltage arc discharge, and high hydrostatic pressure, the shockwave non-thermal food processing is known as a cost-effective technology, because it can be achieved using only high voltage generators, pressure vessels, high-voltage switches, and large capacitors. However, this method suffers from slow processing speed and high stress to the output capacitor. To overcome these problems, we develop a shockwave non-thermal food processing system using a novel high voltage generator with Cockcroft-Walton/Dickson topology. Furthermore, the target food can be effectively crushed by wire electric discharge. In other words, the proposed technique can improve capacitor stress and processing speed. Experiments on a laboratory prototype reveal that the proposed system outperforms conventional systems.

Domestic High-End Industrial Software to Empower Intelligent Manufacturing
Qinxi Dong
Foreign Fellow, The Engineering Academy of Japan
Professor, Hainan University, China
Abstract: With supercomputing entering the exascale era (1018 Floating-point Operations Per Second, FLOPS), developed countries have formulated strategic measures to engage in related research, and at the same time supercomputing is facing a new wave of huge challenges. Based on supercomputing algorithms and the supporting software they generate, this talk provides a brief introduction to data structures, parallel processing methods, data exchange, simulation implementation, etc. It also explores the application of these elements in the research and development of high-end industrial software for intelligent manufacturing-related fields.
Biography of Professor Qinxi Dong
Dr. Qinxin Dong is a professor at Hainan University, PhD supervisor, Foreign Fellow of the Engineering Academy of Japan, Fellow of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, and a specially appointed expert of the Overseas Expert Team of the “Chunhui Program” of the Ministry of Education (China). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Solid Mechanics from the School of Aerospace at Beijing Institute of Technology in 1986, a Master’s degree in Computational Mechanics from the same university in 1989, and a PhD degree in Science and Technology in Computational Mechanics from the University of Innsbruck in Austria in 1997. From 1998 to 2000, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Dr. Dong has over 35 years of experience in the research and development of CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) industrial software across multi-field coupling systems. He is proficient in the core algorithms and data storage formats of scientific computing industrial software from Europe and the United States, capable of interpreting and modifying industrial software source codes. He has long been dedicated to research on supercomputing algorithms and large-scale data storage in supercomputing environments. He develops a supercomputing support software platform with independent intellectual property rights and has successfully applied his research findings to the analysis and simulation of seismic engineering, engineering geology, fluid mechanics, multi-field coupling, intelligent manufacturing, and the formation and effects of new composite materials, resulting in a comprehensive suite of engineering application systems, with supercomputing algorithm optimization, supercomputing software support, and big data analysis. The exascale supercomputing software developed by Prof. Dong has become one of the irreplaceable support tools in Japan for disaster prevention and mitigation engineering. His work achieves parallel computing for seismic wave propagation in three-dimensional complex media with over 2 billion degrees of freedom, and seismic response analysis. These achievements have had a significant impact in Japan, generating substantial value and profit, and have received positive recognition internationally.
He has led and participated in major projects funded by Japanese Natural Science and Railway Transportation Foundations, including the significant project “Flagship 2020 Project” for the exascale supercomputing numerical simulation software platform, with a total project amount of nearly 500 million yen (approximately 25 million RMB). He has published over 80 papers in well-known international journals, co-authored two academic books, and received three paper awards from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
After joining Hainan University full-time in 2020, he forms “Ecological Carbon Sink Big Data Supercomputing Research Innovation Team”, focusing on supercomputing numerical simulations of marine pollution, marine numerical modeling, and flexible oil and gas pipelines. He conducted supercomputing numerical simulations on the heat generation patterns of power batteries throughout their life cycle to assess power battery health and give safety warnings based on big data. He is also dedicated to meeting the supercomputing software needs in negative emission technologies and carbon sink calculations aspects for Hainan Province’s key “High Energy Consumption” enterprises, providing technical support to achieve its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
Invited Talk II
Hybrid Attacks Design on Cyber-Physical Systems
Peng Shi
Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of The Academy of Europe
Professor, The University of Adelaide, Australia
Abstract: Cyber-physical systems (CPS), such as smart grids and intelligent transportation systems, are complex systems where software and hardware components are seamlessly integrated towards performing well-defined tasks. However, this integration increases the vulnerability of CPS with more chances/higher possibility of cyber-attacks that could cause severe consequences to economy, society, and human beings. Hence, cyber-security is a critical and important issue to be addressed in CPS. In this talk, the security of CPS is discussed from the perspective of attackers. We will introduce the background of CPS and security issues, and some existing work on cyber-attacks. We then present our recent work on the design of stealthy hybrid attacks to CPS, which enables attackers to launch hybrid cyber-attacks more effectively to maximize system performance degradation with less chance to be detected. In turn, the attack strategies proposed would challenge the defenders to develop more effective, efficient and resilient methodologies to possibly detect hackers’ intrusions, and maintain the systems operating in a secure, reliable and desired mode.
